Vanessa Johnson Thomas (vjthomasrn@aol.com, or http://langston.osu-tulsa.okstate.edu/vthomas) is a doctoral candidate in the Human Development and Family Science Program at Oklahoma State University, and her focus is on early identification of children with developmental disabilities. With her dissertation advisor, Dr. Patricia Self, she wants to identify developmental disabilities in infants and toddlers to increase early interventions. As the parent of two boys with significant developmental disabilities and as a behavioral health professional, she has helped developed a screening tool for parents of young children to develop an effective survey to be used by parents to help check their child’s development. Questions are personal, information is 100% anonymous. Study criteria are: One or more children aged 12 months to 18 years who have Autism, Down Syndrome, Fragile X syndrome or premutation carrier, Asperger Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD-NOS), or no disabilities and have undergone DNA tests to rule out Fragile X .
