Chapter Six: Ms. Chicken has it done

Why didn't someone tell me how terribly good looking all my readers are?  Oh, guess you got my clue that I had my surgery and all went well?  I am proud to say that I am "seeing" all of you for the first time....and very clearly.

This whole experience was incredible and one that I would recommend to all who are suffering from cataracts.  Have no fear....good eyesight is near!!  You remember Ms.Chicken?  Ms.Wont-go-to-the doctor?  Well here I am telling you that this whole thing was a piece of cake ( with the icing too- sugar-free, of course).

I had to be at the surgery center by 6:30 in the morning for an hour and a half preperation and a three minute operation.  The nurses were fantastic .  They talked sweet nothings in my ear to calm me while they did what they are trained to do.  Get this, they actually hooked me up to a blood pressure machine and there was no comment so my doctor does have that under control after all.

I admit, I held my breath!!  They inserted an IV, taped my eye open and wheeled me in.  The surgeon came in and I anticipated the pain.....ok, discomfort....ok, pressure...ok something but I was happily disappointed.  Before I knew it I was being wheeled out of the room with a total new lens in my eye.  Modern science at its best!!  I left the surgery center after a total of three hours, sent home with drops and a patch for evening wear.  That's it folks!!!  Within a few hours I could already see things I haven't seen in months and as each day has passed, my eyes have improved tremendously.  Shame on me for being such a chicken and shame on me for waiting so long.

Note of interest:  My eye doctor asked me several times if I were diabetic because of the severity and speed that my cataract had grown.  I ignored this warning.  Diabetes is definately a cause of cataracts and if you suddenly develop one, don't rule diabetes out because you haven't been diagnosed.  It is so critical as a diabetic that you take care of your eyes. I learned the hard way but certainly in time to get it taken care of before any permanent damage was done.  It's the matter of a simple test.....Ms.Chicken did it...you can too
